1. Touch Settings
2. Touch Driver Assistance
3. Touch Break Planning
4. You can enable/disable the following options
- Move the toggle switch to the right to enable, or left to disable.
Note: The Break Planning feature is not an approved substitute for logbook recording requirements under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. A Garmin eLog™ Compliant ELD, when integrated with your dēzl™ device, will allow a motor carrier to comply with Hours of Service (HOS) logging and break requirements. Visit garmin.com/eLog for more information.
The Break Planning feature will notify you if you have approached the maximum number of drive hours on your route. The device will suggest adding a stop to the route to prevent a HOS (Hours of Service) violation.
Your device must be in the Truck usage mode to enable this feature. See the owner's manual for instructions to change the device usage mode.
A list of suggested Points of Interest (POIs) will appear along your route where you can take a break when a HOS stop is required. Select one of these POIs to add it as the next stop on your route.
For dēzl™ devices that are connected to the Garmin eLog ELD through the Garmin eLog app and are using the Truck profile, the Break Planner notification will display when all of the following are true:
You are in a driving, on duty, or “yard moves” state on the Garmin eLog device.
The Garmin eLog app must have a valid driver name set.
You are 1 hour away or have reached a driving time violation (i.e. daily or weekly).
This up ahead map tool shows the standard up ahead map tool options as set by you.
For dēzl™ devices that are not connected to the Garmin eLog ELD through the Garmin eLog app and are using the Truck profile, the Break Planner notification will display when any of the following are true:
You are 1 hour away from or have reached your continuous driving limit.
Note: Continuous driving is stopped when your speed goes below 5mph for 15 minute or more.
You are 1 hour away from or have reached your daily maximum driving time.
You are 1 hour away from the weekly maximum total drive time.
This up ahead map tool shows the standard up ahead map tool options as set by you.
Note: See Regulations and Exemptions Supported by the Garmin eLog for more information on limits.
As of 9/29/2020, the ‘driving’ status is the only status that doesn’t contribute to rest-breaks. “On Duty” and “Yard Moves” can now contribute to a rest-break.
30-min is the required duration for a rest-break, not 15-min.
The required rest-break is 8-hr from the (a) start of their day or (b) their last rest-break.
The required rest-break only applies to property-carrying vehicles, passenger-carrying vehicles are not required to take a break.
