Red Light and Speed Camera Alerts Not Appearing on an Automotive Device

If you have successfully installed a Cyclops Red Light and Speed Camera region to your device, but the device fails to provide proximity warnings or displays error messages, you may need to remove and reinstall the download.

To Remove the Subscription from your Device:

Windows:

  1. Connect your device to the computer
  2. Open Computer (on Windows 7) or File Explorer (on Windows 8, 8.1, 10, 11)
    • If using Windows 10 or 11, click This PC when it appears
  3. Open the Garmin drive once it appears
  4. Double click the Garmin folder
    • Some devices skip this step
  5. Double click the POI folder
  6. Delete the .gpi file corresponding to your subscribed region

Mac:

NOTE: It is recommended that a Windows computer be used for the devices in Automotive Device Compatibility with Garmin Mac Applications on macOS.  Files cannot be viewed when connected to a Mac computer.

For all other devices, follow the steps below:

  1. Connect your device to the computer
  2. Open the GARMIN drive on your desktop
  3. Double click the Garmin folder
    • Some devices skip this step
  4. Double click the POI folder
  5. Delete the .gpi file corresponding to your subscribed region

Once the file has been deleted, ensure that the latest software is installed on your device. The Garmin Express application can be used to check for and apply software updates.

Once the device software has been updated, safely disconnect the device from the computer to ensure that the update completes, then reconnect the device.

Next, sign in to your account in Garmin Express.


To Install the Cyclops Red Light and Speed Cameras to your Device:

  1. Select your device in Garmin Express
  2. Click on Tools and Content
  3. Click on the Purchased tab
  4. Click on the download cloud icon next to the Cyclops Red Light and Speed Camera subscription

Once installed, safely disconnect your device from the computer. The camera database should now be successfully updated.

Notifications for traffic or web cameras are not included. These cameras are not used by law enforcement and are only used for controlling traffic. These are often confused for red light cameras and will not provide an alert.

To check that the updates were downloaded successfully, go to the Support Center, and enter the product name or Serial Number of your device. Once your device is selected, click Search for a solution... and enter either of the following topics:

  • For Dash Cams: "Viewing Subscription Information for Red Light and Speed Cameras or Dangerous Zones on a Garmin Dash Cam"  
  • For all other devices: "Verifying a Red Light and Speed Camera or Dangerous Zones Subscription Was Successfully Downloaded to an Automotive Device"
