Transfer User Data To and From the Garmin Explore Website

With the Library, Collections, and Primary Collection features on the Garmin Explore™ Website, you can choose what data to transfer and receive from the compatible device.

Manually Syncing Garmin Explore Account Data on an Automotive Device

The compatible device, Garmin Explore™ app (Compatible with the Overlander® GPS navigator only), and your Garmin Explore™ website account all work in conjunction for you to access your user data while you are in the field. It is important to sync your device before going into the field because it requires an Internet connection. Always verify the data you want is in the compatible app and on your device before you set out on your adventure.

A data connection is required when syncing with compatible apps on your phone or device.

Understanding Library, Collections, and Primary Collection

Library

The Library is a list of all your user data on the Garmin Explore™ website. Any data created on the website or uploaded from a compatible Garmin product will be stored under Library.

NOTE: When using the zūmo XT2 and Tread devices, it is recommended to use the Tread® App for managing waypoints, routes, and tracks. The Garmin Explore website can be used to manage waypoints and tracks, but does not support route creation for the zūmo XT2 and Tread devices.

Collections

Collections are lists of data that can store selected user data from the Library, allowing for a less cluttered map, trip planning, or showing specific data in MapShare™ page. Collections also allow for syncing only some user data to compatible devices or even using Primary Collection to receive data in the desired collection.

Primary Collection

For new customers, the default setting will be to sync everything in your Library when you pair a new device. However, Primary Collections can be used to control where new data is transferred to in the Library's Collections from a compatible Garmin device when syncing from the Garmin Explore app or inReach® Sync. Data transferred to a Collection from a Primary Collection will still appear within the Library.

Selecting Items to Be Synced and Setting Primary Collection

Selecting your Collections to be synced will ensure that you are only transferring the data you want the next time you sync. You can set a Collection to be synced by selecting sync arrows on the map tab. Alternatively, you can easily select if you want your library to sync or what collections to be synced from the Plans & Devices tab. You may also want to set a Primary Collection. A Primary Collection will take data recorded from the device and will be automatically imported into a selected Collection next time you sync.
