Starting and Stopping inReach Tracking on a Tread Device

Tracking on the Tread® - Overland Edition, Tread® - SxS Edition, and Tread® XL - Overland Edition GPS navigators is the uploading of your position coordinates at a specific interval with an active inReach® satellite subscription. This allows others to view the path you are traveling during your adventures via your MapShare™ page.

By default, Tracking is set to an interval of 10 minutes and must be started manually. When Tracking is started, the track recording on the device is also started automatically. If desired, you can change the interval on the Tread device.

1. Touch inReach from the main menu.

   

2. Touch the wrench icon.

   

3. Touch Send Interval.

   

4. Select a Send Interval option and touch Save.

    

IMPORTANT: With the Safety,¹ Enabled, and Essential plans, there is an additional cost per point (varies by currency) using the Send Interval. As an example, if your Send Interval is set to 10 minutes and you had tracking on for 1 hour, you could be charged for 7 track points (this includes a starting track point). What is an Activity vs Tracking?

Activities are recorded coordinates (or breadcrumbs) connected together and their associated data (elevation, time, distance, etc). This is for the benefit of the device user to record and review their own activities.

Tracking is for the Tread device only and is coordinates connected together that can be uploaded in real-time to MapShare with an active inReach subscription. This is for the benefit of others to follow along while the tracking is in progress.

Starting Tracking on the Tread Device

1. Touch inReach from the main menu.

   

2. Touch the Tracking icon in the top left.

   

   OPTIONAL: Send your MapShare link to recipients to allow them to follow along your track. This counts against your plan's monthly message allotment. If your plan does not have unlimited messaging, this can result in additional costs once your allotment is used up ($0.50 USD/each message). Send MapShare only counts as one message regardless of how many recipients are entered, but if recipients reply, each reply counts against the allotment.

   1. Touch the Wrench icon.

      

   2. Touch Send MapShare.

      

   3. Touch the menu button followed by Type Recipients to manually enter contact information, or select from the list of available contacts.

      

   4. Touch Done when finished.

      

   5. Use the keyboard to enter a message and touch Send.

      

   6. Tracking has been started and will begin uploading to your MapShare page.

Stopping Tracking on the Tread Device

When you are done recording your track, you can stop it with the steps below.

1. Touch inReach from the main menu.

   

2. Touch the Stop icon.

Tracking Sync

The Tread devices have a feature allowing you to link inReach tracking with the Track Recorder. With this setting enabled, starting/stopping the Track Recorder will also start/stop inReach tracking automatically.
