Viewing Distant Points of Interest or Addresses on a GPSMAP 66/67 Series
When planning an upcoming trip, you may want to ensure certain points of interest or addresses are available on your GPSMAP beforehand.
Depending on what you want to view, there are a couple options listed below for searching in a different location than where you are currently located.
NOTE: The preloaded Topo map in the GPSMAP 66st is not routable. The preloaded Topo map in the GPSMAP 66i, 66sr, 67, and 67i, does not include an address search and will not supply turn-by-turn routing in automotive routing profiles.
Search Near Function
The Search Near function allows you to view points of interest including cities, tides, or geographical points.
With routable mapping in your GPSMAP, such as City Navigator or TOPO 24K, you can also view gas stations, restaurants, hotels, entertainment spots, and other similar places.
- Press Find.
- Press Menu.
- Select Search Near.
- Press Enter on one of the Search Near options.
- If "A Recent Find" is selected:
- Select the recent find to search near.
- Choose the category of item to search for.
- If "A Waypoint" is selected:
- Select the waypoint to search near.
- Choose the category of item to search for.
- If "My Current Location" is selected:
- Select the category of item to search for near your current location.
- If "A Map Point" is selected:
- Move the map so that the cursor or red pin is on the point you wish to use.
- Press Enter.
- Select the category of item to search for.
- If "A Recent Find" is selected:
The GPSMAP will now provide search results near the different location.
Searching for an Address
The ability to search for an address on your GPSMAP requires the purchase of additional mapping, such as City Navigator or TOPO 24K. It is also important that the map covers the area you wish to search in.
- Press Find.
- Select Addresses.
- Search Area usually displays the current or last known state/province.
- If you are trying to search elsewhere, select Enter City or Enter State/Province.
- For searching in another country, either option works. To enter a different country, select Enter State/Province.
- Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the city or state/province. As you type, the closest results appear above the keyboard.
- Select Done to choose from the results, or finish typing then select Done.
- Select Number.
- Use the on-screen keyboard to input the street number.
- Select Done.
- NOTE: Disregard if it says None Found on the bottom, and continue to the next step.
- Select Street Name.
- Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the street name.
- As you type, the closest results appear above the keyboard. Select Done to choose from the results, or finish typing then select Done.
- Select desired address under the Street Name field.
- If there are similar or inexact results, a list of addresses may appear. Select the desired address.
- If there are similar or inexact results, a list of addresses may appear. Select the desired address.
The address will appear on the map. You can use the directional button to pan the map around, and +/- to zoom in or out.
Saving an Address as a Waypoint
You can also save the selected address as a waypoint for later use. To do so:
- Press Menu.
- Select Review Point.
- Press Menu.
- Select Save as Waypoint.
A confirmation should display that the waypoint was saved. The waypoint can be found under Waypoint Manager, or under Waypoints by pressing Find.
