Garmin Recertified Device Not Offered a Map Update in Garmin Express Software

NOTES:
  • In accordance with the Lifetime Maps and Maps Terms and Conditions, map updates and/or Downloadable Content (DLC) are no longer available to download or purchase and cannot be activated and/or associated with the Garmin devices listed in Map Updates and Downloadable Content No Longer Available to Download or Purchase.
  • This is due to these devices not having sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data.
 

In some cases, Garmin Express™ software may fail to provide updates for Garmin Recertified GPS devices.

Symptoms Include:

  • Garmin Express offers no available map updates.
  • Garmin Express offers updates for purchase for devices that include nuMaps subscriptions.
  • Garmin Express offers map updates for the wrong country or continent.
  • Garmin.com incorrectly states "Your maps are up to date".

This issue can be Resolved by Manually Registering the Device to a Garmin Account

Follow the Instructions Below to Register the Device:

  1. Visit the following link: https://www.garmin.com/account/register/
  2. Sign in to a pre-existing Garmin account, or create a new one.
  3. Select REGISTER NOW
  4. Enter your Product Serial Number in the box
  5. Select SUBMIT

The device has now been registered.


After the Registration is Complete, Remove and Re-associate the Device with Garmin Express™:

  1. Disconnect the device from the computer
    • Eject the device from the computer first if using a Mac
  2. Open Garmin Express
  3. Right-click the appropriate device on the Home screen (click the Home icon first if needed)
  4. Click Remove From Garmin Express
  5. Click Remove
  6. Connect the device and follow the on-screen prompts to add the device to Garmin Express

The appropriate map updates should now be available for the device.
