Frequently Asked Questions on Suspending inReach Service
NOTE: As of September 18th, 2024, inReach® Freedom subscription plans are no longer available for new inReach activations. Existing customers with inReach Freedom subscription plans will still be able to suspend and reactivate their service until their next annual renewal date unless they change to a different plan.
When using an inReach Freedom subscription plan, there may be times when service for the device is not needed. In these instances, the subscription can be suspended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Suspend My Subscription Service Plan?
If service is currently active on a month-to-month inReach Freedom subscription plan and your annual renewal date is more than one month away, yes, service may be suspended. Annual plans and newer inReach Consumer plans cannot be suspended.
Why Am I Getting a “Plan Change Failed” Error When Trying to Suspend My Freedom Subscription Plan?
If the annual renewal date for your Freedom subscription plan is less than a month away, you will not be able to suspend and will instead receive an error. This is because suspensions do not go into effect until the next upcoming renewal date and our new plans do not offer the ability to suspend service. If you will not be needing inReach services for an extended period of time, you can still cancel your subscription and reactivate again later.
Upon reaching the annual renewal date, there will be no Annual Program Fee and the plan will be automatically migrated into the closest equivalent new plan (e.g. Safety migrates to Essential, Recreation to Standard, and Expedition to Premium). For more details, see - Frequently Asked Questions on September 2024 inReach Consumer Subscription Plan Changes.
Are There Any Fees During Suspension?
There are no fees for suspending a plan, this is among the benefits of having a Freedom plan. If the yearly anniversary of the activation occurs during suspension, the plan will be automatically migrated into the Enabled plan and will be provided 2 months of Enabled at no cost. For more details, see - inReach Consumer Enabled Plan Explained.
If I Suspend Service Today, When Will it Become Effective?
A suspension is not an immediate action and will take place on the plans upcoming renewal date.
