Video Resolution

Video resolution refers to the size and quality of an image recorded.

The Camper/RV 785, CamperCam/RVcam 795, dēzlCam™ series, Garmin DriveAssist™ series, Garmin DriveCam 76 and nūviCam have two video resolution settings, Higher Resolution, and Medium Resolution.

  • Higher Resolution will save at 1080p, which is higher quality, but larger in size, so less video can be held on the memory card at once.
  • Medium Resolution will save at 720p, which is lower in quality than 1080p but allows for more video to be held on the memory card at once.

To Change the Video Resolution Setting on the dēzlCam, Garmin DriveAssist 50, Garmin DriveAssist 51, and nūviCam:

1. Touch Settings

2. Touch Camera

3. Touch Video Resolution

4. Select the desired resolution setting and touch Save

To Change the Video Resolution Setting on the Camper/RV 785 or dēzlCam 785:

1. Touch Settings

2. Touch Dash Cam

3. Touch Video Resolution

Maximum Video Recording Time

The following table reflects the typical maximum video recording if no photos or other data (data not placed on the SD card by the device) are present on the memory card.

Frames Per Second (FPS)

Although video seems continuous, it is actually a rapid sequence of static images called "frames."  Frames Per Second (FPS) refers to the number of image frames recorded per second and can be related to the smoothness of movement in a recorded video. High FPS values will result in a smooth video, while low FPS values may result in a video looking "choppy."

The Camper/RV 785, CamperCam/RVcam 795, dēzlCam series, Garmin DriveAssist series, Garmin DriveCam 76, and nūviCam all record at 30 FPS, which is a value that balances video smoothness with file size.

Still Image Resolution

The still image resolution refers to the size of a picture recorded and is expressed in megapixels (MP). One megapixel refers to one million pixels, which are small squares of information that combine to make up an image. The CamperCam/RVcam 795, dēzlCam, dēzlCam LGV/OTR710, dēzlCam LGV/OTR725,  Garmin DriveCam 76. Garmin DriveAssist series, and nūviCam all take pictures at 2.1 MP.

Field of View

The field of view or viewing angle is a measurement of the viewing area that the camera lens takes in at one time and is expressed in degrees.

Night Vision

While these devices do not include a night vision filter, they are designed as forward-facing cameras. As such, if the device is used at night it will record video of what is illuminated by the vehicle headlights.
