Deleting an ActiveCaptain® User on a Chartplotter
To prevent showing up as a guest user on a chartplotter or fishfinder with the ActiveCaptain® app delete the previous ActiveCaptain® owner / user through the following steps:
NOTE:
• For STRIKER™ series devices, skip step 3.
• Marine Networked devices must be disconnected from each other and reset independently to remove the previous ActiveCaptain® owner if selecting the option to Delete Data and Reset Settings
WARNING: Resetting a Garmin Marine Chartplotter will erase some configurations for other devices, including Garmin Autopilots and C Zone Configurations. Always backup C Zone Configurations prior to factory resetting a device. The chartplotter or fishfinder must be unregistered from the previous owner
If the previous owner is needing to be removed from the ActiveCaptain® app on the smart device, reset the ActiveCaptain® app
Open the ActiveCaptain® app on the smart device and select Settings > select Reset App
Either reformat or remove the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file from the microSD / SD card if there is an existing ActiveCaptain® microSD/ SD card in the chartplotter

Remove the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file
Windows
- Insert the card into the computers card reader
- Open the Start Menu
- Type the words "file explorer" (Windows 10 / 11) or "windows explorer" (Windows 7)
- Left-Click on the "File Explorer" or "Windows Explorer" search result to open
- Left-Click on the drive letter associated with the micro/SD card
- Double-click the Garmin Folder
- Right-Click the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file
- Select Delete
Mac
- Insert the card into a computer's card reader
- Double-click the newly added desktop icon for the microSD/SD card
- Left-click the Garmin Folder
- Left-click and hold the ActiveCaptainCard.dat file
- Drag and drop in the Trash
Reset the Default Settings on the chartplotter / fishfinder

Ensure there are no microSD / SD cards in the chartplotter during the reset
Back up any user data, system profiles and / or digital switching seetings prior to resetting the device
Once these steps have been completed, the owner or user should be removed. Complete the initial setup when the devices restart and register the chartplotter / fishfinder to the new owner. After pairing prompted, verify the email address is correct on the chartplotter / fishfinder and acknowledge the prompt on the fishfinder.
