Tracking With the Garmin Explore App

Tracking is the uploading of your position coordinates at the interval specified. Tracking requires an active inReach® subscription to function and may be started either on the inReach handheld or with the Garmin Explore™ app on a paired mobile device.

Before attempting to send your tracking link, either the LiveTrack™ or MapShare™ feature should be enabled and configured in your inReach account. If you attempt to send your tracking link prior to enabling either of these features, the message "You cannot use MapShare until you give consent at explore.garmin.com to post your data online" will be sent to your inReach device and will count as one received message on your monthly invoice. IMPORTANT: With the Safety,¹ Essential, and Enabled plans, there is an additional cost per point (varies by currency) using the Send Interval or Moving Interval on the paired inReach handheld. As an example, if your Send/Moving Interval is set to 10 minutes and you had tracking on for 1 hour, you could be charged for 7 track points (this includes a starting track point). Using Tracking on the Garmin Explore App

Ensure your paired inReach device is powered on, then open the Garmin Explore app.
Select Devices.
Select Tracking under inReach Features.
- A check in the corner of the button indicates Tracking is in progress.
- If you are using a compatible inReach device with the Garmin Messenger™ app, selecting Tracking will take you into the Garmin Messenger app. For more details on using the Garmin Messenger app, see - Tracking With the Garmin Messenger App.
Start inReach Tracking by touching the triangle in the orange circle.
When you are ready to stop the tracking, touch the square in the orange circle.
Touch Stop Tracking when prompted to confirm.

The inReach Tracking page has several options:

Tracking Interval: Set to 10 minute interval by default. Displays a drop-down of other interval options to choose from when selected.
inReach Message: Opens the inReach message window, allowing you to select who to send a message to with either your LiveTrack URL link or your MapShare URL link, depending on which you have enabled on your account.
- NOTE: The LiveTrack or MapShare URL link will not be displayed in the message window, but will automatically be included with the message along with the password for your MapShare page (if applicable).
Share (Requires Data Connection): Opens a list of options to share your LiveTrack or MapShare URL with other apps on your paired mobile device (email, other messaging apps, etc.). These options require your mobile device to have a data connection, and only share the link. These options do not automatically include any password you may have set for MapShare.
