What is Unified Training Status?
Unified Training Status allows you to share data specific to training across multiple Garmin® devices connected to your Garmin Connect™ account. Select the following topic to jump to details.
When you use multiple Garmin devices, you must set one as your Primary Training Device (PTD). This device should be the main source for training related data and performance stats, such as Training Status, Training Effect, and Training Load, and it should be the one that you use the most for activity recording.
The Primary Wearable is different from a PTD as it determines the primary source for tracking all-day wellness data such as HRV Status, Sleep, Stress, etc.
Which Device Should Be My Primary Training Device?
We recommend choosing the same device for both your PTD and Primary Wearable, as it will give you the most unified experience across training and daily health data. For example, if you have an Edge® 1040 cycling computer and a Forerunner® 965 watch, we recommend choosing the Forerunner as the Primary Training Device, as it will sync more frequently.
What Happens When I Record An Activity On My Non-Primary Training Device?
In order to unify the training status of your devices, there are a number of syncs with your devices that need to take place to unify the training status across your platform. Below is an example scenario outlining what this process looks like:
Here is how the process is described in steps for you to follow:
Activity is recorded on an Edge 1040 (non primary device).
Activity from Edge 1040 is uploaded to Garmin Connect.
Forerunner 965 (primary device) syncs with Garmin Connect and then computes unified training status metrics.
Forerunner 965 syncs with Garmin Connect again which uploads updated unified training status.
Edge 1040 syncs with Garmin Connect and receives updated unified training status.
What if I have a Device With Unified Training Status and One Without?
The Device Compatible with Unified Training Status with act as the PTD by default. The device without Unified Training Status will still generate its own Training Status that will be visible on the device itself, but the Training Status on the PTD and in Garmin Connect will be the true Training Status. You will no longer see the option to toggle between different device's Training Status in Garmin Connect if a PTD is set on the account.

NOTE: Devices marked with a * are only able to be set as a Primary Wearable and cannot contribute to Training Status without a Training Status compatible device. For more information on the Training Status feature see: What Is the Training Status Feature on My Garmin Device?

Setting a Primary Training Device or Primary Wearable
Select your platform below for instructions on setting a Primary Training Device or Primary Wearable. If you only have one Garmin device, these settings will not show, as that device will be your Primary device by default. If you add another device, you can determine device priority at that time. Since only watches can be a Primary Wearable, that setting is only available for watches.
