'Pre-programmed data will be lost' Message Inside my microSD/SD Card Case
If you have purchased a pre-programmed micro/SD Data Card, you will see the following warning inside the case.
Caution: Pre-programmed micro/SD cards should not be used for saving MapSource® Maps. The pre-programmed data will be lost.
This message does not mean that the SD card will delete the maps that are already on your Garmin device. You can put the SD card in the device and still have access to both the maps that are installed on the device's hard drive, as well as the maps on the SD card.
The above message simply means that the maps on the SD card will be deleted if you load additional maps to the card from a program such as MapSource or MapInstall™. This type of issue would not be covered under warranty. You can back up the files from the SD card to your computer in case they are erased by mistake.
To Back Up the SD Card, Follow the Steps Below:
- Insert the SD card into the Garmin device
- Connect the device to your computer
- Open the SD card drive
- This will appear in Computer or My Computer when using Windows
- This will appear on the Desktop when using a Mac.
- NOTE: Some devices will not appear as a drive on a mac computer. See: Automotive Device Compatibility with Mac Computers
- Right-click on the Garmin folder
- Click Copy
- Right-click on the Desktop
- Click Paste
The files will now be saved on your Desktop so that they can be reloaded onto the same SD card if they are deleted by mistake. Please note that these files will not work on any other SD card and must be loaded back on to the original card.
