UNL_ITEM.HPP error message in MapSource or MapInstall

Description


The UNL_ITEM.HPP error with the MapSource® or MapInstall™ program indicates an issue either accepting or accessing the unlock codes for the Garmin maps that have been installed.


Resolution


MapSource software:

Update MapSource software to the current version.

  1. Open MapSource program
  2. Click on Utilities at the top
  3. Click on Manage Map Products
  4. Click on the Unlock Regions tab
  5. Highlight the code(s)
  6. Select Delete
  7. Restart the computer
  8. Open MapSource program
  9. Click on Utilities at the top
  10. Click on Manage Map Products
  11. Click on the Unlock Regions tab
  12. Click on the Add button
  13. Enter the unlock code (All unlock codes can be found in the user's myGarmin account)
  14. Press OK

MapInstall software:

Update MapInstall software to the current version.

  1. Open MapInstall program
  2. Click on Icon at the top left next to the word MapInstall
  3. Click on Manage Map Products
  4. Click on the Unlock Regions tab
  5. Highlight the code(s)
  6. Select Delete
  7. Restart the computer
  8. Open MapInstall program
  9. Click on the Icon on the top left next to the word MapInstall
  10. Click on Manage Map Products
  11. Click on the Unlock Regions tab
  12. Click on the Add button
  13. Enter the unlock code (All unlock codes can be found in the user's myGarmin account)
  14. Press OK

Each unit needs its own unlock code for each version of the maps being used. After completing the replacement of the unlock codes, the UNL ITEM.HPP error should no longer occur.
