Using a Garmin gWind Transducer Installed on a Rotating Mast
Can Garmin gWind transducers be used on a rotating mast and are most often found on catamarans, trimarans, and racing sailboats? Garmin does not offer a gWind wired or gWind wireless transducer capable of calculating the rotational movement of a mast. Garmin gWind transducers are secured and fixed in place, referencing the vessel's bow to calculate True and Apparent wind data. Mounting a Garmin gWind transducer on a rotating mast will cause inaccurate wind data.
Compatible Garmin chartplotters can utilize third-party wind transducers to calculate the mast's rotational movement. The third-party wind transducer must use the NMEA 2000 network and operate PGN 130306.
