Updating and Syncing an inReach Mini 2

The inReach® Mini 2 handheld applies firmware updates differently than other inReach devices. Firmware updates can be sent to the inReach Mini 2 handheld wirelessly with the Garmin Explore™ app, or via the computer with the Garmin Express™ program.

Account changes such as subscription plan changes and updated Contacts, QuickText, or Check-in Messages ( formerly known as Preset Messages) must be sent through the Garmin Explore app.

Garmin Explore App

The Garmin Explore app is a mobile application used as the primary interface between the Garmin Explore website account and a paired inReach device.

Syncing

Through the app, you can sync items to and from the Garmin Explore website like Contacts, Check-in Messages ( formerly known as Preset Messages), data (waypoints, routes, tracks, and activities), and account plan changes. The paired device, Garmin Explore app, and Garmin Explore website automatically sync between each other when the app is opened and the paired device is in range.

Updating Software

The Garmin Explore app will also download software updates automatically behind the scenes while your inReach Mini 2 handheld is connected to your mobile phone.

NOTE: Software updates cannot be installed manually via the Garmin Explore app. If you wish to install software updates immediately, use the Garmin Express program.

There are no extra steps required to obtain the latest software and it cannot be done manually. Once an update has been sent to the inReach Mini 2 handheld, it will automatically install the update, or prompt the user for further action.

Garmin Express Software

The Garmin Express computer program provides the ability to check and offer software updates automatically each time you connect your inReach Mini 2 handheld to the computer. Garmin Express software requires the use of a Windows or Mac computer and cannot be utilized on a smartphone or tablet.
