Using the Garmin eLog with a dēzl Trucking Device

The Garmin eLog™ App can be paired with certain dēzl™ series trucking devices to easily view duty status, hours of service information, warning indicators, and more.

Compatibility

The Following Devices are Compatible with the Garmin eLog App on a Smartphone/Tablet:

NOTE: The Garmin eLog smartphone app is required for use of the Garmin eLog Compliant ELD for the devices listed below.

Changes to the eLog app like switching duty status are not able to be made directly on the dēzl device. The dēzl device only allows for viewing of app information.  Changes within the app would need to be made on a smartphone, or tablet. 

The Garmin eLog App is Preloaded on the Following Devices and Does Not Require the Use of a Smartphone/Tablet:

  • dēzl™ OTR1000 GPS navigator

  • dēzl™ OTR1010 GPS navigator

Setup for the dēzl 570 LMT, dēzl 580 LMT-S, dēzl 770LMTHD, dēzl OTR500, dēzl OTR610, dēzl OTR700, dēzl OTR710, and dēzlCam LMTHD,

NOTE: The dēzl device must be in the truck mode to view the eLog information.

1. Ensure the eLog device and app are paired and set up properly

See Setting Up Your Device for information.

2. Pairing your dēzl device with your smartphone/tablet

See your device's owner's manual, or view the appropriate support video for your phone type:

iPhone

Android

3. Enable the Garmin eLog App to pair with the dēzl device

To Enable the eLog App to Pair With the dēzl device:

      1. Ensure you are logged into a driver profile
      2. Touch Settings
      3. Touch Pair to Nearby Garmin dēzl

The app should now be ready to pair with your dēzl device.

4. Enable the Garmin eLog connection on your dēzl device

To Enable the Connection on the dēzl™ Device for Android:

      1. Touch Settings
      2. Touch Bluetooth or Wireless Networks
      3. Touch the name of your paired phone
      4. Ensure there is a checkmark in the box next to Garmin eLog. Touch the box to add or remove the checkmark.

To Enable the Connection on the dēzl™ Device for iOS:

      1. Touch Settings
      2. Touch Bluetooth or Wireless Networks
      3. Touch Smartphone services
      4. Ensure there is a checkmark in the box next to iOS Services, and Garmin eLog shows Connected. Touch the box to add or remove the checkmark

The Garmin eLog App should be enabled and fully paired once the box is check marked.

Setup for the dēzl OTR620, dēzl OTR720,dēzl OTR820, dēzl OTR1020, and dēzlCam OTR725

1. Ensure the eLog device and app are paired and set up properly

2. Pairing your dēzl device with your smartphone/tablet

3. Enable the Garmin eLog App to pair with the dēzl device

To Enable the eLog App to Pair With the dēzl device:

      1. Ensure you are logged into a driver profile
      2. Touch Settings
      3. Touch Pair to Nearby Garmin dēzl

The Garmin eLog App should be enabled and fully paired once the box is check marked.

Setup for the dēzl 780LMT-S, dēzl OTR800, dēzl OTR810, dēzl OTR1000, dēzl OTR1010, and dēzlCam 785 LMT-S

NOTE: These devices need to be paired to the Garmin ELD adapter directly in order for any eLog information to appear on the device.

To Set Up and Pair your Garmin eLog Adapter with the Garmin eLog™ App:

    1. Open the Garmin eLog App on your device
    2. Review the Garmin Terms of Use and place a checkmark in the box
    3. Touch Continue
    4. Touch Next
    5. Follow the onscreen instructions
    6. Touch Next
    7. Follow the onscreen instructions
    8. Enter the Vehicle and CMV numbers
    9. Touch Next
    10. Enter the requested information
    11. Touch Save and Finish

The eLog and trucking device are now paired.

Using eLog Features

Once all the components are successfully connected, the Garmin eLog map tool will replace the Break Planner tool and can be selected on your dēzl device to easily view your duty status and total drive hours. See your device's owner's manual for information on map tools.

The eLog map tool will display the current duty status, drive hours until hours of service violation, daily drive hours remaining, and weekly on-duty hours remaining.

 

Touching one of the data fields will display the detailed information, seen below.
