Assigning Waypoint Categories Using BaseCamp
Categories can be assigned to waypoints in the BaseCamp™ software program (requires BaseCamp 4.3.1 or newer) in order to keep your saved favorites organized once transferred to your automotive device.
Before creating a custom waypoint category, ensure the BaseCamp program is up-to-date.
NOTE: Waypoint categories cannot be assigned to devices using the Garmin Explore™ app. Instead these devices use collections.
To Assign a Waypoint Category on a PC:
- Select My Collection in BaseCamp software
- Right-click on a Waypoint and select Open
- Click the Categories tab
- Type a name for the category in the data field
- Click Add Category
To Assign a Waypoint Category on a Mac:
- Select My Collection in BaseCamp software
- Right-click on a waypoint and select Get Info
- Click References
- Select the Categories field
- Type a name for the category
The chosen category will now be assigned to the waypoint. Categories can be assigned to multiple waypoints at once by selecting a group of waypoints and completing the steps above.
Multiple waypoints can be selected on a PC from the My Collection list by holding the Control key and clicking the desired waypoints.
Multiple waypoints can be selected on a Mac from the My Collection list by holding the Command key and clicking the desired waypoints.
NOTE: BaseCamp can also be used to manage waypoints and tracks, but Basecamp does not support route creation for the Tread devices. To transfer GPX files to the compatible device using BaseCamp, see Importing GPX Files into BaseCamp and Transferring the Data to a Garmin Automotive Device.
