Using the Custom Map Sets Feature on the Montana 700 Series

The Montana® 700 series outdoor handhelds with the release of software version 8.20 have a feature called Custom Map Sets. To update your software see - Installing Software Updates and Managing Maps with the Montana 700 Series.

This feature allows you to create groups of maps that can be easily toggled on or off when using the device for different activities. This can be especially helpful if you are using other Garmin maps, such as TOPO 24K or HuntView Plus, in addition to the preloaded mapping in the Montana handheld.

NOTE: This feature is designed to be used as an alternative method for configuring maps on the device. We recommend disabling Automatic Maps when using Custom Map Sets. For more details on the Automatic Maps feature and how to disable it see - Viewing Topo Maps When Multiple Maps are Loaded to a Montana 700i/750i.

IMPORTANT

  • Worldwide DEM Basemap should always be enabled when creating a Custom Map Set.
  • BirdsEye Satellite Imagery and custom maps cannot be included in Custom Map Sets. These maps will need to be enabled/disabled manually.
  • When multiple detailed maps are loaded to a handheld, they fall in to a specific hierarchy. City Navigator® maps at the top, and Topo maps below. This causes Topo maps to not be visible unless City Navigator is disabled.
