Error “Email Is Invalid” or “Is Being Used by Another User”
If you receive one of the following error messages when trying to update the email address on your Garmin.com, Garmin Connect™, Garmin Explore™, or inReach® account, and you know the email address to be valid and correct, this means that the email you are trying to use already exists somewhere in the Garmin database.
- Email is invalid
- Email address __________@______.com is being used by another user
Most often, this is due to having created a different account at some point previously. This can also occur if you previously provided your email address when contacting Garmin Product Support. In either case, the issue can be resolved by visiting https://www.garmin.com and following the steps below.
Step 1 - Sign Out of the Primary Account You Were Trying to Update
- Go to https://www.garmin.com.
- Click
in the top right corner of the page and select Sign Out.
Step 2 - Remove the New Email That Caused the Error From Garmin’s Database
- Go to https://www.garmin.com.
- Click
in the top right corner of the page and select Sign In.
- Enter the new email address you were trying to update your account to use and a password, then select SIGN IN.
NOTE: Select Forgot? and follow the prompts to reset the password if you do not know it or never set a password. A temporary password will be emailed to you. - Click
in the top right corner of the page.
- Select Account.
- Select EDIT.
- Change the email address.
EXAMPLE: If the email is listed as john@garmin.com, you can change it to john@refused.com. This will remove john@garmin.com from Garmin's database so that it can be used on a different account. - Select SAVE.
OPTIONAL: After saving the changes, you can request that the account be deleted. Be sure to thoroughly review and back up any data that you wish to save from all Garmin sites, apps, and services such as Garmin.com, Garmin Connect, Garmin Dive™, Garmin Explore, Garmin Pilot™, inReach, Navionics®, and Tacx®. in the top right corner of the page and select Sign Out.
Step 3 - Sign Back in to Your Primary Account and Update the Email Address
- Go to https://www.garmin.com.
- Click
in the top right corner of the page and select Sign In.
- Enter the old email address and password, then select SIGN IN.
- Click
in the top right corner of the page.
- Select Account.
- Select EDIT.
- Enter the new email address.
- Select SAVE.
