Cortex®- Making DSC Calls on VHF

Cortex® has developed a new way to use the VHF radio and to make DSC calls very easy and intuitive.

DSC (Digital Selective Calling) was developed to replace a voice call. Cortex allows the user to identify vessels by their AIS transmission, which includes their MMSI number. To make a DSC call the user would have to enter the vessel's MMSI number to call, and then press the DSC transmit button.

Cortex has made this calling method much simpler. Select the vessel to contact on the chartplotter, or on the directory on the handset.

Cortex Directory

At the bottom of the directory after the vessel "Cortex-Hub" is selected- tap the bottom right icon to initiate the DSC call.

Using the chartplotter is an ideal way to contact a vessel that may present a collision concern, so that maneuverings can be discussed and agreed upon to pass safely.

Here we select a vessel off our starboard bow, We tap on the vessel symbol on the plotter and it is shown in brackets, and at the bottom of the screen , we see the vessel is called "Hush".  We tap the bottom right side and we can now make a DSC call to the vessel "Hush" by tapping the call icon.
