Kenwood System Displays "Can't Unlock Maps" After a Map Update

If you receive the error message "Can't Unlock Maps" or "No Map Data Available" on your Kenwood system AFTER a map update, follow the steps below to resolve the error message.

Ensure the Mapping is Enabled:

1. Touch Nav or Navigation
2. Touch Settings
3. Touch Map or Map & Vehicle
4. Touch myMaps or Map Info

The next screen will display the mapping loaded to the Kenwood system. If there is no checkmark next to the map(s) listed, touch the box to add a check. This will enable the mapping on the device.

Leave the SD or MicroSD Card in the System:

If your Kenwood system updates using an SD or microSD card the SD card must remain in the system after downloading the update. The updated map information is read directly off the SD card.

Verify the SD Card is Unlocked:

Some SD cards have a lock switch on the side. If this switch is in the locked position it can prevent the Kenwood system from reading the map information. Make sure the switch is slid up towards the metal contacts (unlock position).

Format the Update Media and Reinstall the Map Update:

Before reinstalling the maps, you will first need to format the update media.

If your system updates using a USB flash drive instructions see Format a USB Flash Drive for use with a Kenwood Device for instructions on formatting the USB flash drive.

If your system updates using an SD card or microSD card see  Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card for a Kenwood Device for instructions on formatting the SD or microSD card.

After you have formatted the update media, see  Reinstalling a Kenwood Navigation Map Update for instructions on reinstalling the map update.

Try Another Update Media:

Depending on your system you will want to try using another SD card, microSD card, or USB flash drive. The update media should be no larger than 32GB. Using a form of update media larger than 32GB in size can cause the update to either not install properly or be read by the Kenwood system.

If the above steps do not resolve the error message, contact Product Support for assistance.
