Possible MURS Radio Interference With Compatible Garmin Devices
Garmin Astro® (excluding Astro® 900) and Alpha® dog tracking products, Garmin's Group Ride Radio when used with the Tread® GPS Navigator and all models in the Tread® series, zūmo® XT and zūmo® XT2 GPS navigators, and some third-party radios use MURS (Multi-Use-Radio-Service) radio technology.
When using a radio or compatible Garmin device that operates on or near the MURS band, you may hear a squelch like sound, which is a quick burst of data, when tracking is happening. For example, when using the voice communication feature on a compatible device listed above, a MURS radio user tuned to the same channel might hear that communication directly, i.e. they would hear someone talking.
As more MURS products are created by Garmin and others, this problem will become more likely to occur. All MURS radios in the US use the same five MURS channels.
The solution from a tracking standpoint is to find and use an unoccupied channel for all MURS devices being used within close range of each other. To accomplish this, the channels can be manually changed on Garmin devices by referencing the owner's manual for instructions and/or by referencing the third-party radio's instructions.
Visit the FCC Website for more info on MURS radio channels.
