Installing a Depth Limiter on a Garmin Force Trolling Motor

These written instructions assist with replacing the bushing atop the trolling motor servo housing with a depth limiter that is now preinstalled standard from the factory. Illustrative-only instructions are included when a depth limiter is ordered separately. Upon completion of the installation of depth limiter, complete the steps in the FAQ "Steering Alignment or Servo Alignment Error on Force Trolling Motor" referenced in Related Content below.

Step 1:

  • Using a flathead screwdriver, break each tooth away from the bushing

Step 2:

  • Using a diagonal cutting plier, lift up, break away, remove, and discard the bushing

Step 3:

  • Position and lower the keyed internal depth limiter part in alignment with the key on the trolling motor shaft

Step 4:

  • Position and lower the non-keyed internal depth limiter part along the opposite side of the trolling motor shaft

Step 5:

  • Assemble the outer keyed depth limiter part against the groove of the shaft and over the retaining lip on the servo housing

  • Place the non-keyed outer depth limiter along the opposite side over the retaining lip on the upper servo housing

  • Use a #2 Philips screwdriver to tighten the screws as illustrated below
