Bluetooth Not Working on a Fusion® Stereo
Bluetooth may occasionally experience interruptions in communication, like:
- Bluetooth-dependent features not working
- Devices losing and regaining Bluetooth connection
- Inability to find or connect to a device via Bluetooth
First, check that the phone and stereo are within range. A Bluetooth signal has a maximum range of 30ft and anything in between the devices, especially metal can interfere. If they are in range, the interruption may be resolved by a simple power cycle. Turn the devices off and on again and attempt to pair. If that does not resolve it, the next step is to unpair all Bluetooth devices from the stereo and phone and restart both. General steps for doing so are included in this FAQ, but they are not universal and the owner's manual for the device in question may be needed to complete them.
Disconnect all Bluetooth devices from the stereo
All devices paired to the stereo via Bluetooth should be unpaired and Bluetooth / Discoverable on the stereo should be turned off. On most current stereos this can be done by selecting:
Sources >
Menu > BT > Connections > Remove Device
- Select each device in the list until all have been removed
- Select
Sources >
Menu > BT > Connections and uncheck Discoverable
- Turn the stereo off
If these instructions do not apply to the stereo being used, see the stereo's owner's manual for the appropriate steps. Some stereos like the WS-SA150 StereoActive do not have such menus and removing paired devices is not necessary.
Disconnect all Bluetooth devices from the phone
The steps shown may vary depending on the model of phone being used and the installed version of Android or iOS, but the Bluetooth menu on any phone is usually located within Settings.
To unpair Bluetooth devices from an Android phone
- Open Settings on the phone and select Connected devices
- Select the Gear icon next to the device to be removed
- Select Forget
- Select Forget Device
- Repeat steps 2-4 for each device under Connected Devices and Previously Connected Devices
- Open Settings on the phone and select Connected devices
To unpair Bluetooth devices from an iPhone
- Open Settings on the phone and select Bluetooth
- Select Information on the device to be forgotten
- Select Forget This Device
- Select Forget Device
- Repeat steps 2-4 until all devices under My Devices have been unpaired
- Open Settings on the phone and select Bluetooth
If these steps do not unpair all Bluetooth devices from the phone, contact the phone's manufacturer for further assistance.
Update the software on the stereo and the phone
Most Fusion® stereos and smartphones will periodically receive software updates to improve performance, fix minor issues, and improve the user interface. Most current Fusion stereos can be updated via the Fusion Audio app, however if the stereo being used is not compatible with the Fusion Audio app, see the owner's manual for update instructions.
See the smartphone's owner's manual for update instructions.
Additional tips
If the unpairing and repairing process was unsuccessful and interruptions are still being experienced, repeat the process. Multiple attempts may be needed to resolve interruptions. Additionally, some extra steps can be taken:
- Alternate where pairing is initiated (pair to the stereo with the phone, or to the phone with the stereo)
- Move the phone closer to the stereo
- Disable other devices using wireless communication in the area
- Pair a different phone to the stereo
- Unplug the stereo from power by removing the power wiring harness and let it sit for 3-5 minutes (to drain the capacitors), then plug it back into power and turn it on and try to pair via Bluetooth
If Bluetooth interruptions are still not resolved, contact Product Support.
