Video Resolution/Specs
The video resolution refers to the size and quality of an image recorded.
The Garmin fleet 780 and Garmin fleet 790 have two video resolution settings: Higher Resolution, and Medium Resolution.
Higher Resolution will save at 1080p, which is higher quality, but larger in size, so less footage can be held on the memory card at once.
Medium Resolution will save at 720p, which is lower in quality than 1080p but allows for more footage to be held on the memory card at once.
To change the video resolution setting on the Garmin fleet device:
1. Touch Settings
2. Touch Dash Cam
3. Touch Video Resolution
4. Select the desired resolution setting
The device will now record in the chosen video resolution.
The following table reflects the typical maximum video recording if no photos or other data (data not placed on the SD card by the device) are present on the memory card.
microSD Card Size | Video Footage Time (Hours) | |
---|---|---|
Resolution | 720p | 1080p |
8GB | 3.4 | 2.2 |
16GB | 6.8 | 4.5 |
32GB | 13.6 | 9.1 |
64GB | 27 | 18 |
Note: All times are approximate. An 8 GB microSD card is included with the device.
Frames Per Second (FPS)
Frames Per Second (FPS) refers to the smoothness of movement in a recorded video. High FPS values will result in a smooth video. Low FPS values will result in a video looking "choppy."
The Garmin fleet devices record at 30 FPS, which is an average value balancing video smoothness with file size.
Still Image Resolution
The still image resolution refers to the size of an image recorded and is generally counted in megapixels (MP). The Garmin fleet devices take pictures at 3.7 MP.
Viewing Angle
The viewing angle of a camera represents how wide an area the image covers.
Night Vision
While these devices do not include a night vision filter, they are designed as forward-facing cameras. As such, if the device is used at night it will record video of what is illuminated by the vehicle headlights.
