Adding an inReach Device to an Existing Consumer Account

Individual users may have more than one inReach® satellite communicator on a Garmin Explore™ account. We offer this option as some users want the ability to switch between different inReach devices for different activities (e.g. inReach Mini handheld for backpacking and GPSMAP 86i handheld for boating).

Before adding an additional inReach device to your account, review the information below to make an informed decision.

You can still have additional canceled inReach devices (no active inReach subscription plan), or other compatible Garmin non-inReach devices in your Garmin Explore account.

Adding an inReach Device to an Existing Consumer Account

Important Items to Consider

With multiple inReach devices on one Consumer account:

  • Only one device can be active at a time and only that active device can utilize the inReach services.
    • inReach services include sending/receiving messages, triggering SOS and uploading to MapShare™ page.
  • You would be paying for all subscriptions, regardless if the device(s) is active or not.
    • The only exception is if the non-active device(s) is on a Freedom plan, and is suspended.
  • The active device must be assigned to a user in order for inReach services to function.
    • This has to be done from the Garmin Explore online account (internet access required) before heading out on a trip.

If you decide to move ahead with adding an additional inReach device to your account, follow the steps below.


Steps to Add an inReach Device

  1. Log in to your Garmin Explore account.
  2. Select Plans & Devices.
  3. Select Add inReach Device.
  4. Select I Want Multiple Devices.
  5. Acknowledge the Important Note by clicking Continue to Add.
  6. Input the IMEI number and Authorization Code from the inReach device.
  7. Click the check-boxes to accept the terms and conditions, and terms of use.
  8. Select Next.
  9. Follow the on-screen prompts to enter the additional required information.

The inReach device should now be added to your account.


Removing an Additional inReach Device

If you added an inReach device to an existing Consumer account and wish to remove it, reach out to our billing team to find the best option for your situation. For their contact information, see - Contact Garmin Services Billing.


Option for Families, or Groups of Individuals

At this time, Garmin does not offer family or group inReach plans.

For families or groups of individuals who need to use devices simultaneously, the best option is to activate any additional inReach devices under their own Consumer account (one inReach device per Garmin Explore account).

IMPORTANT: When doing this, keep in mind that each Garmin Explore account needs to be under a different email address.


Option for Teams, Businesses, or Organizations

If you are operating as a team, business, or organization1 and you need to add additional active users, a Professional inReach account is required.

Switching from a Consumer account to a Professional account makes managing multiple users and devices much easier. For more information, see Related.
