Garmin Speak or Garmin Speak Plus Reports that Another App Has Control of the Media Player

Important: The Garmin Speak App has been replaced by the Garmin Drive App. To continue using the Garmin Speak along with more enhanced benefits, please visit the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) to download the Garmin Drive App.

NOTE: The information in this FAQ applies only to phones running an iOS version 11.0.x.

When issuing commands to Amazon Alexa through the Garmin Speak or Garmin Speak Plus, Alexa may reply that the command cannot be completed because another app has control of the phone's media player. This may occur regardless of whether or not the media player on your phone is currently in use.

To resolve the issue, open the Garmin Drive App on your phone. As long as the app is open, Alexa will have control of the phone's media player and will function normally.
