Deleting Supplemental Mapping From an Automotive Device
Supplemental maps sent directly to the internal memory of an automotive device will remain on it until the file(s) are deleted.
To Delete Supplemental Mapping From the Device:
NOTE: It is recommended to back up files to your computer before deleting. This may take some time, especially for larger files.
- Connect the device to the computer
- Open the Garmin device drive
- Windows: Hold down the Windows key + E to open Windows Explorer where the Garmin device will be listed
- On Windows 10, click This PC
- Mac: Open Finder, then Devices, where the Garmin device will be listed
- Windows: Hold down the Windows key + E to open Windows Explorer where the Garmin device will be listed
- Open the Map folder
- Some map files will be named "gmapsupp.img," while others may have a product-specific file name such as "UK_Ireland_2016_10.img" for a City Navigator Europe NT UK & Ireland 2016.10 supplemental map
- Delete only the map file(s) that are no longer needed
- NOTE: It is not recommended to delete unknown or un-labeled map files as they may be regions of a needed current map update.
- If using a Mac, empty the Trash, then eject the device in Finder
- Disconnect the device
Following the relevant instructions above will remove the supplemental mapping from the device. The mapping will no longer be available on the device.
