Reconfiguring a GND 10 Using Nexus Race Software
Users may experience a loss of wind information if the GND 10 is not configured correctly (when integrated with a Nexus system).
Loss of wind information is typically associated when:
The vessel has a Nexus network (Nexus Servers, WSI, or Nexus Instruments) that uses a GND 10 to convert Nexus information to an NMEA 2000 protocol. Depending on the age of the GND 10, it may be preconfigured in such a way that causes the Nexus network to look for NMEA 2000 data, instead of Nexus data from connected gWind transducers.
Data may never have been present on the Garmin instruments
The data was lost immediately after introducing a new or replacement GND 10 to the Nexus and NMEA 2000 network
Nexus Servers and GND 10 Overview
Nexus servers (NX2 or Nexus FDX - legacy systems) act as the primary hub to coordinate and communicate sensor information with Nexus instruments and the rest of the vessel. The current Garmin gWind transducers still utilize a "Nexus Communication Protocol," but only between the Garmin gWind transducer and GND 10. The GND 10 converts the Nexus information into NMEA 2000 data. The GND 10 sends the converted data to the devices on the vessel's NMEA 2000 network.
Before reconfiguring the GND 10
Ensure the NMEA 2000 system is operational
Follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in No Wind Data
Update the operating software on all Garmin equipment
- Download the GND 10 software and drivers by selecting this link: GND 10 Software and USB drivers for the GND 10 found under the section Manually Download
NOTE: Users must use a Windows-based operating system (Windows 2000 or later) to download the software.
Reconfiguring the GND 10
See the instructions below for reconfiguring the GND 10 using the Nexus Race Software:
1. Download the Nexus Race Software to a Windows-based computer system (to download the Nexus Race Software, use this link: Nexus Race Software)
2. Connect the GND 10 to the computer via USB
3. Open the Nexus Race software
4. Select the "Communication" button
5. Set the primary connection as NX2 FDX server on COM port
6. Choose the appropriate COM for the GND 10 and select OK
7. Click Tools
8. Select Configure
NOTE: If the Configuration screen is blank or times out, disconnect the Nexus equipment and reconnect it, the list should populate
9. Right-click the GND 10 NMEA 2000 gateway
NOTE: User may have to select "Refresh" to populate the GND 10 Gateway
10. Select Setup
11. Uncheck all boxes except for Navigation and Position and select OK
12. Select OK
13. Select the Communication button to disconnect
14. A Close Connection window will appear; select Yes
15. The GND 10 is now correctly configured
If problems occur when connecting with the Nexus Race software, check the Device Manager COM ports to ensure the correct COM port is connected. If the GND 10 software version is older than version 2.00, it will need to be updated in order to configure the device with the Nexus Race software.
