Reinstalling TopoActive, CourseView, and Ski Maps to a Compatible Garmin Watch

At times it may be necessary to reinstall the mapping to a watch to troubleshoot a mapping issue, or resolve an unlock/authentication error message. The TopoActive, CourseView, and Ski1 mapping can be reinstalled through Garmin Express™ software by following the steps below.

NOTE: Some watches feature a Map Manager setting on the watch and a Manage Maps option in Garmin Express software that provide additional options for installing maps. For more details, see - Using Map Manager on Garmin Watches or Managing Maps on Garmin Watches With Garmin Express.

Reinstalling Mapping

  1. Connect the watch to the computer.

  2. Launch Garmin Express program.

  3. Select your device from the Garmin Express home page.

  4. Select Map Details.

  5. Select Map Options.

  6. Select Reinstall.

  7. Click Continue (may need to accept terms).

  8. The maps will now begin to reinstall.

  9. Wait until the update is completed.

  10. Disconnect the watch.

Following these instructions will ensure the latest firmware, and map updates are installed.


1 The fēnix® 5X watch does not have TopoActive or Ski mapping. The fēnix® 5 Plus series and tactix® Charlie watches do not have Ski mapping.
