GPSMAP 196, 296, 396, 496 Software Update Fails During Transfer

The software update will fail during transfer if the GPSMAP® portable navigator is plugged into a computer's USB 3.0 port, as the USB 3.0 port transfers data too quickly for the GPSMAP unit causing it to lock up in the middle of the transfer.  To resolve this issue, connect the device to a compatible USB 2.0 port.  If your computer does not have a USB 2.0 port, you can purchase a USB 2.0 hub from a local electronics/retail store to slow down the data transfer rate between the computer and the GPSMAP unit.  To recover a unit that has locked up, remove the battery and external power from the unit for 5 seconds, and then replace it.
