Using the Music Control Widget Feature on a Garmin Device
Many Garmin devices feature a widget that allows you to control the music being played on your paired smartphone while connected to the Garmin Connect™ app. Features such as play, pause, and skip to the next or previous track are available through the widget to control the media player on the phone.
Additional features such as volume control, shuffle, and repeat are available on select Garmin devices. If music controls are not an available widget you may need to update the software on your watch. The music control widget controls the last used media player on the smartphone for both iPhone and Android smartphones.
NOTE: Forerunner® 35, Forerunner® 45, Forerunner® 45S, Garmin Swim™ 2, and vívosmart® HR+ will only control the native music player on iOS devices, and only when the Garmin Connect app is running on the phone. See Related below for more information.

The Music Control Widget Is Not Controlling the Last Used Media Player on My Phone

Step 2: Confirm That Notification Access Has Been Granted to the Garmin Connect App
The location of this setting will vary by phone manufacturer. If you cannot find this setting, contact your phone manufacturer for specific instructions.
NOTE: The following are general steps and may not match your particular phone.
Open the phone's Settings menu.
Select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen.
Input “Access” into the search box.
Select Notification Access or Access to Notifications.
On some phones you may need to select Special Access first.
