My Garmin Fitness Device Appears to Be Frozen or Locked Up

There may be instances where a Garmin® device will have issues powering off and will appear to be frozen or locked up. Your device may exhibit one of the following symptoms when in this state:

  • Screen stuck on Garmin logo (blue triangle).

  • Incorrect time displayed without changing.

  • Menu option is frozen on the screen.

  • Device will not respond to button or screen presses.

To remove your device from this state you will need to perform a hard reset (only for devices that have a button):

NOTE: Performing a hard reset has the potential to erase information such as daily steps or heart rate data.

Press and hold the power button until the display goes blank. You will then need to power the device on normally. If the device fails to respond and appears to be powered off, plug the device into a power source and then try holding the power button for about 10-30 seconds, or until it powers on.

vívosmart® HR and vívosmart® HR+ smartwatch users: This process may factory reset your watch. You may be required to set the watch up again before using it.
