WIN_XXXXX .CPP or .HPP Error in Garmin Applications

The WIN_XXXXX error can be caused by different factors depending on the Windows operating system.

The Error can Appear as:

  • WIN UTILITIES.CPP
  • WIN FOUNDFILEIMPL.HPP
  • WIN FOUNDFILE.HPP
  • WIN FOUNDFILE.CPP

If any of these errors occur, update the application to the latest version.

If this does not resolve the issue, follow the appropriate steps for your operating system:

Windows Vista and Higher:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type the name of the application
  3. In the search list, right-click on the application name
  4. Click Open file location
  5. Right-click on the application
  6. Click Properties
  7. Click Compatibility
  8. Check the Run this program as an administrator box
  9. Click OK

Windows XP:

The WIN CPP / HPP error can occur while creating a backup file in the Windows temp folder. To resolve the error, clear the contents of the temp folder:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type %temp%
  4. Click OK
  5. Click Edit
  6. Click Select All
  7. Right-click on the highlighted files
  8. Click Delete
  9. Click Yes to move the items to the Recycle Bin.

Windows will begin deleting the files.


If a Message Appears During This Process Stating That a File Cannot be Deleted:

  1. Click OK
  2. Press and hold the Ctrl key
  3. Click on the file that could not be deleted
  4. Release the Ctrl key
  5. Right-click on the remaining highlighted files
  6. Click Delete
  7. Repeat the process until the entire folder has been cleared apart from the files that could not be deleted
  8. Restart the computer

The Garmin application should now open without the error.
