Garmin Mechanic Reset Check Engine Lights
The Vehicle Diagnostics function of Garmin Mechanic features the ability reset Check Engine Lights (CEL’s) for some error codes.
To reset a vehicle’s CEL, follow these directions after connecting to ecoRoute HD:
- On Garmin Mechanic’s main menu, touch the phone or tablet’s Menu soft key
- Touch Vehicle Diagnostics
- At the bottom of Vehicle Diagnostics panel, touch Get Diagnostic Codes (NOTE: This button may only be accessed when the connected vehicle’s CEL is on)
- After having recorded the desired information from the Vehicle Diagnostic panel, touch Reset Codes
- Choose OK when Garmin Mechanic requests confirmation prior to attempt to erasing the diagnostic data
Garmin Mechanic then returns to the app’s home screen. It is important to understand resetting the CEL only hides a symptom of a problem. If the problem is not fixed prior to resetting the CEL, the indicator will likely reappear immediately. Other explanations for Garmin Mechanic failing to reset the CEL are follows:
- The specific vehicle does not allow a CEL reset via an ECU command
- The specific error code does not allow a CEL reset via an ECU command
- This particular vehicle may require an ECU reset to turn off the CEL, which Garmin Mechanic and the ecoRoute HD cannot access
