Create, Edit, or Delete a Playlist on an Automotive Device

For added convenience when listening to MP3 music files, a playlist can be created directly on the device.  To display album art, the album art must be attached to the MP3 file before being loaded to the device.

To Create An MP3 Playlist

  1. Touch Tools
  2. Touch Media Player
    • After this step, ensure the screen displays MP3 in the top-right; if it does not, touch Source until it does, then proceed
  3. Touch Browse
    • If the Browse button cannot be selected, ensure that the device or the SD card in the device contains .mp3 song files.
  4. Touch Playlist
  5. Touch Create New Playlist
  6. Select the desired songs for the playlist
    • A green music note will appear next to selected songs
  7. Touch Back until you see Save Current Playlist as an option
  8. Touch Save Current Playlist and enter the desired name for the playlist

The playlist will now be accessible through the Browse button in the MP3 source of the media player.

To Edit a Saved Playlist

  1. Follow steps 1-4 above
  2. Touch Open Saved Playlist
  3. Touch the desired playlist
  4. Touch Browse
  5. Touch Playlist
  6. Touch Edit Current Playlist

After following these six steps, you may either delete songs from a playlist or add new songs.

To Delete Songs from a Playlist

  1. Follow the steps above for editing a playlist
  2. Touch the song you wish to delete
  3. Touch Remove
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for each song you wish to remove

To Add Songs to a Playlist

  1. Follow the steps above for editing a playlist
  2. Touch Add
  3. Select the desired songs
  4. Touch Back until you see Save Current Playlist
  5. Touch Save Current Playlist and enter the desired playlist name
    • To overwrite the original playlist, type the name of that playlist
    • To create a new playlist using the newly-created lineup while keeping the original playlist, type a name that is not in use by any other playlist

To Delete a Playlist from a Device

  1. Connect the device to your computer
  2. Open the Garmin drive
    • This appears in Computer (7 or Vista), My Computer (XP), File Explorer (Win 8)
    • This appears on the Desktop or in Finder on Mac
  3. Open the MP3 folder
  4. Open the Playlists folder
  5. Deleted the desired playlist(s)
    • If using Mac, empty the trash immediately after this step
  6. Safely remove/eject the device from the computer

The playlist(s) will no longer appear on the device.

The device may still display a "current playlist" that is comprised of the songs from the last playlist used. To clear this out, either open a saved playlist or choose the option to "Edit Current Playlist" and delete all songs. Note: if the current playlist is also a saved playlist, then clearing out the songs in the current playlist does NOT also clear them out of the saved playlist.
