Portable marine chartplotter does not hold a time and date if turned off for more than a day
The portable chartplotter devices, like the GPSMAP® 276c, GPSMAP® 376c, GPSMAP® 378, and GPSMAP® 478, receive the time and date information from the satellites it connects with to provide the device with its position data.
If the device does not hold the time and date information after a few days of being turned off, there are a few things to do to try to resolve this issue.
The first troubleshooting step to try is called an AutoLocate®. This will refresh all of the information it has received from the satellites including time, date, and GPS information. Here are the steps to perform the AutoLocate procedure.
- With the device powered OFF, press and hold the Zoom Out button
- Power the device ON, but continue to hold the Zoom Out button until the I Agree screen appears
- Let go of the Zoom Out button
- Press the Enter button to accept the agreement
- Leave the device in clear view of the sky for at least 30-45 minutes or until it acquires a connection to the satellites
If the time and date did not correct after performing the Autolocate, the next troubleshooting step is to update the internal operating system of the device to the latest version. Please see Related Content for steps on how to do this.
