HRM-Fit: Top FAQs About the Activity Tracking Feature
The HRM-Fit™ monitor can provide supplementary activity tracking data by recording heart rate, calories, intensity minutes, and step data when your Garmin Watch or Edge® Cycling Computer cannot be worn or used. This data can be sent to your Garmin Connect™ account without having to first sync with another Garmin Watch or Edge Cycling Computer.
However, if you have a compatible watch or cycling computer, the HRM will also share the activity tracking data with the Garmin Connect app and your paired device using the TrueUp™ synchronization feature. This allows for cases when you might not be able to wear your watch during team sports or martial arts, but you still want to capture this data.
To ensure this data is captured make sure of the following:
Make sure the heart rate monitor (HRM) is paired with the Garmin Connect app.
Make sure you are wearing your HRM and be near your phone at the end of your activity. (Opening the Garmin Connect app on your phone will also cue a sync.)
The HRM-Fit can store up to 18 hours of activity data before being overwritten.
What Happens If I'm Wearing the Strap and My Watch at the Same Time?
The TrueUp synchronization feature in Garmin Connect ensures activity tracking data for the same time period from multiple devices does not get counted twice.
When not recording an activity with the watch, if you wear the watch and strap at the same time, the all-day heart rate data in your Garmin Connect account comes from the watch.
Can the HRM-Fit Automatically Create a Timed Activity in Garmin Connect When I Am Wearing It?
No, the HRM-Fits do not have the ability to record a timed activity. If you want a time activity file, you must start the activity profile using the compatible Garmin Watch or Cycling Computer first.
Can I Get Detailed Heart Rate Data From the HRM-Fit as Part of a Timed Activity When I’m Not Wearing My Watch?
Yes. The straps have a store-and-forward feature that is used for timed activities when they are out of range of a previously paired watch. For details on this feature as well as a list of watches that are compatible, view the following FAQ: How Does the Store and Forward Feature on My Heart Rate Strap Work? .
Does the HRM-Fit Provide Distance During a Timed Activity?
Yes. With software version 8.80 or newer, the strap is able to provide pace and distance information to your Garmin® watch for Run Activities. See Updating Software on the HRM-Fit for more information on updating your heart rate monitor strap.
Does the HRM-Fit Provide Real-Time Heart Rate Data in the Garmin Connect App?
The HRM-Fit does not provide real-time heart rate data directly to the Garmin Connect app. This information is stored and will sync when connected to the app. To view this data follow the steps below:
Open the Garmin Connect App.
Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).
Select Health Stats.
Select Heart Rate.
Does the HRM-Fit Detect Sleep?
No it does not. For a sleep graph you will need to wear a Garmin watch that is compatible with the sleep feature.
Can I Turn Off the Activity Tracking Feature on the HRM-Fit?
You can only effectively turn off the activity tracking feature of the strap by removing it from the Garmin Connect app. There are two reasons to have the HRM-Fit paired with the Garmin Connect app:
To sync activity-tracking data
To send firmware updates to the HRM-Fit
Firmware updates for the HRM-Fit are also sent to any Garmin device that is paired to the HRM-Fit. If there is a firmware update for the HRM-Fit, your Garmin watch or Edge® cycling computer will prompt you to apply that update.
NOTE: The HRM-Fit will only connect to the watch while actively recording an activity. If you are wearing the watch and not recording an activity, the watch will still be the primary wearable device. However, the HRM-Fit will have step records (and other wellness data) for the time frame that the watch was off the wrist. The HRM-Fit can remain paired to the watch during this time. Once you complete your activity, upload that information to the Garmin Connect app by syncing the HRM-Fit.
I Am Missing Data From My HRM-Fit in My Connect Account
If the HRM-Fit is connected to multiple accounts, the strap will be unable to sync data properly. The resolution is to remove and re-add the strap to your account you want to sync with.
