The upper track shows Smart recording while the lower track shows Every Second recording. Every Second recording creates a smoother, more detailed track line, picking up small changes that Smart Recording does not.

Settings That Improve the Distance and Speed Accuracy of the Enduro
There are many factors that can contribute to incorrect speed and distance readings on an Enduro™ outdoor watch. Some are outside of your control, such as GPS drift and environmental factors. However, there are changes you can make to the settings of your watch that can improve the data captured during an activity.
Recording Methods
Your Enduro series watch offers the ability to change the recording method between Smart or Every Second recording. This setting refers to the interval at which GPS data is recorded during an activity.
- Smart recording saves GPS points when changes in direction, speed, heart rate or elevation are detected. It is the default setting of Garmin's watches for the balance it achieves in detail and battery consumption.
- Every Second recording will record a GPS point once per a second, regardless of direction, speed, heart rate or elevation. It produces highly detailed tracks of your activities, yielding the most detailed and accurate readings for speed and distance.
Changing Recording Method Settings
- Hold UP/MENU to access the Main Menu.
- Select System.
- Select Data Recording.
- Select the preferred recording option.
3D Speed and 3D Distance
When doing activities with moderate to high elevation changes, enabling 3D Speed and 3D Distance can improve speed and distance accuracy. Enabling the 3D Speed and 3D Distance features allows the watch to incorporate elevation changes into its speed and distance calculations.
- 3D Speed calculates speed using both the elevation change and horizontal movement over ground.
- 3D Distance calculates the distance traveled using both elevation change and horizontal movement over ground.
Distance or Pace Source
If you are using an HRM-Pro™ or HRM-Pro™ Plus heart rate monitor paired to your watch, check the source of your distance or pace data. If you are running outside, consider having the HRM as the distance and pace source for only indoor activities, so that the watch is relying on GPS tracking for your outdoor data. Since terrain can impact stride length, using GPS tracking outside can help with accuracy. If you want to learn more about using the HRM-Pro or HRM-Pro Plus to track pace and distance see - Using the HRM-Pro/Pro Plus Running Pace and Distance Feature.Put on the heart rate monitor.
Press and hold the MENU/UP (middle left) button of the watch.
Scroll to or select Settings.
Select Connectivity (some watches skip this step).
Select Sensors & Accessories.
Select HRM-Pro or HRM-Pro Plus.
Select HRM Pace & Distance.
Select Use for Pace or Use for Distance.
Select when you want the HRM to be the source for that data. Unless your activities are in areas of severely degraded GPS signal, we recommend using the Indoor setting.
