Garmin Mount Does Not Stay Attached to Windshield
Low-Profile Magnetic Mount
Your Garmin device came with a low-profile magnetic mount. The preinstalled magnetic base attaches to the mounting surface, typically your windshield, using a strong adhesive.
The following factors may cause the adhesive to degrade and the mount to detach from the windshield:
- Extreme temperature changes.
- Film or debris on the windshield due to not having been cleaned prior to mounting.
- Touching the adhesive prior to mounting.
- Mounting the device on a textured non-glass surface, such as the back of a rear-view mirror.
- Not allowing sufficient time for the adhesive to bond to the windshield before using.
If the adhesive is degraded, it may not be able to reattach to the windshield, or it may detach again. A new adhesive mount will need to be used.
For tips to mount the adhesive, refer to your device's owner's manual.
If any remaining adhesive on the windshield needs to be removed, see How to Remove Adhesive Magnet for a Dash Cam.
Suction Cup Mount
Your device is also compatible with a removable Garmin Dash Cam™ Universal Suction Cup Mount, which is a separate purchase. The suction cup may also be affected by the factors above. If the suction cup does not stay attached to your windshield, try the following troubleshooting steps after verifying that the protective plastic has been removed from the suction cup.
Suction cup mounting troubleshooting steps:
- Verify that the protective plastic film has been removed from the rubber suction cup
- Clean the suction cup and the mounting area of the windshield with rubbing alcohol
- Dry both surfaces with a lint-free cloth
- Apply moisture to the suction cup before placing it on the windshield
- This creates a better seal and helps the device stay in place.
- Flip up the lever on the suction cup
- Place the suction cup on the windshield
- Apply pressure on suction cup mount
- Flip down the lever to secure the suction cup in place
The suction cup should now be securely mounted.
Note: Using the Garmin Dash Cam Universal Suction Cup Mount on tinted windows is not recommended. This could pull off the window tint and create a permanent bubble.
Replacing the mount
If either type of mount needs to be replaced, see Buying Automotive Accessories Directly from Garmin for instructions to purchase a replacement.
