Using the Route Planner in the Tread App

The Tread® app has the ability to create a multiple-point trip and mark waypoints. Routes and waypoints can be synced with a compatible device via the Tread app.

NOTE: The Tread app must be paired to a compatible device for the Route Planner icon to appear. If the route button is missing, the device will need to be paired in the Tread app.


Create a Route

1. Open the Garmin Tread app

2. Select the Route Icon

  • NOTE: The Tread app must be paired to a compatible device for the Route Planner icon to appear.

3. To select a starting point, select one of the following:

  • To search for a location by address or keyword, select the Magnifying Glass icon
  • To select a location from your saved waypoints, select the Flag icon
  • To select a point on the map, touch the map and select Start Here

 

4. Add additional stops by using the options above, then selecting Add to Route until the route is complete.

  • Once at least two points are added to a route, a route preview will display.
  • This route preview will make the buttons on the map screen transparent for better view of the route. These options can still be selected, despite appearing inactive.

5. Touch the Edit Name button to change the name of the route, if desired.

 

6. Touch the save icon  to save the Route.

7. An overview of the route is displayed, including information such as total distance, elevation changes, and estimated time. Select the X icon when you are finished reviewing the route information.

The route created can now be found under Saved in the Tread app menu. 


Create a Route in Route Planner With a Great Ride

NOTE: The Great Rides feature is only available on the zūmo XT2 GPS navigator. Your zūmo XT2 will only be able to navigate areas where it has mapping coverage. If the Great Rides option is missing, ensure the Tread app has been paired to the zūmo XT2. See Installing and Pairing the Tread App.

1. Open the Tread app

  • NOTE: The Tread app must be paired to a compatible device for the Route Planner icon to appear.

2. Pan around the map and select a Great Ride (blue routes or orange bookmarked routes ) or select a Great Ride from the Great Ride option under the menu icon.

3. Select the Great Ride name to view the details 

 

4. Select Create Route

 

5. Select Begin your route with the Great Ride or Choose a starting point before the Great Ride. 

 

  • Choose a starting point before the Great Ride
    1. Add a stop to the route
    2. The route will automatically calculate to which Great Ride point is closest to determine direction of travel.
  • Begin your route with the Great Ride 
    1. Choose your direction you wish to take the Great Ride by selecting the Ride Start Point
    2. Add any additional stops desired

6. Touch the save icon  to save the Route.

7. An overview of the route is displayed, including information such as total distance, elevation changes, and estimated time. Select the X icon when you are finished reviewing the route information.


Create a Waypoint

1. Touch the Waypoint icon

 

2. Drag the crosshairs in any direction to a new position if needed. You can rename the waypoint, edit the coordinates, change the icon, or add notes.

 

3. Select Save


You can also save a waypoint by touching the map. This can be done after searching for a location to save a waypoint without needing to drag the map around.
1. Touch the Map, then select the coordinates.
 
2. Select Save Waypoint
 
3. You can rename the waypoint, edit the coordinates, change the icon, or add notes.

 

4. Select Save


Edit a Route

Saved routes can be edited with different options. To open a saved route on the Tread app, use the steps below:
1. Open the Tread app
2. Select the Menu icon
3. Select Saved
4. If necessary, select Routes
 
5. Select the route you wish to edit
6. Select Edit Route
 

Editing Options

There are different options to edit how the route is calculated or view additional information.
  • Select the Trip Elevation icon to display an overview of the elevation changes over the course of the route
  • Select the Vehicle Profile to change what vehicle profile the route is calculated for.
    • A restricted icon may appear next to route segments if the chosen vehicle profile is not allowed to access the road.

  • Select the three dots iconto Delete the route, or to change Route Settings
    • Route Settings will allow you to set avoidances for the route calculation
  • Select the calculation mode to change how the segment is calculated.

    • Faster Time minimizes driving time
    • Straight Line only shows a straight line to the stop without consideration for roads or paths between
    • Shorter Distance minimizes distance traveled.
    • Adventure Level 1 gives the fastest route with paved roads
    • Adventure Level 2 gives a fast route, with some adventurous routing
    • Adventure Level 3 gives adventurous routing, with curves and hills if possible
    • Adventure Level 4 gives extra adventurous routing, prioritizing as many curves and hills as possible.
    • Selecting the Garmin Adventurous Routing button will allow you to enable additional options taken into account when selecting an adventure level

To Add Shaping Points

1. Select a route segment, which is a section of the route between two waypoints.

2. Touch Select This Segment

 

3. Select a point on the map to shape the route

4. Select Insert Shaping Point

 

5. The route will now recalculate.

 

6. Repeat as necessary.


Reorder the Locations on your Route

1. If the list view of stops is not displayed, drag the black dropdown bar down.
 
2. Touch and hold the location you wish to reorder, then drag it to the desired place.
3. The route will now be recalculated with the new order of locations.
 
4. Repeat until the locations are in the desired order.

5. Touch the save icon  to save the Route.

6. An overview of the route is displayed, including information such as total distance, elevation changes, and estimated time. Select the X icon when you are finished reviewing the route information.


To Add a Great Ride to your Route

NOTE: The Great Rides feature is only available on the zūmo XT2 GPS navigator. Your zūmo XT2 will only be able to navigate areas where it has mapping coverage. If the Great Rides option is missing, ensure the Tread app has been paired to the zūmo XT2. See Installing and Pairing the Tread App.

1. Pan around the map and select a Great Ride (blue routes or orange bookmarked routes ) or select a Great Ride from the Great Ride option under the menu icon.

2. Select the Great Ride you want to add to the route and select the Great Ride name

3. Select Insert in Route

4. Reorder the Locations and Great Ride as necessary

 

5. Touch the save icon  to save the Route.

6. An overview of the route is displayed, including information such as total distance, elevation changes, and estimated time. Select the X icon when you are finished reviewing the route information.


Delete a Route

To delete a saved route:

  1. Open the Tread app
  2. Select the Menu icon
  3. Select Saved

  4. If necessary, select Routes
  5. Select the route you wish to delete
  6. Select Delete
  7. Select Continue
The route is now deleted.

To delete multiple routes:
  1. Open the Tread app
  2. Select the Menu icon
  3. Select Saved

  4. If necessary, select Routes
  5. Touch and hold on a route
  6. Place a checkmark next to any routes you wish to delete
  7. Select Delete
  8. Select Continue

The selected routes are now deleted.


Sharing a Route

To share a created route:

  1. Open the Tread app
  2. Select the Menu icon
  3. Select Saved

  4. If necessary, select Routes
  5. Select the route you wish to share
  6. Select Share (GPX)
  7. Use one of the available options to share the route as a .gpx file

To share multiple created routes:

  1. Open the Tread app
  2. Select the Menu icon
  3. Select Saved

  4. If necessary, select Routes
  5. Touch and hold on a route you wish to share
  6. Place a checkmark next to any of the routes you wish to share
  7. Select Share (GPX)
  8. Use one of the available options to share the routes as a .gpx file.
