Types of USB Cables Used to Connect Automotive Devices to the Computer
There are three types of USB data cables used to connect Garmin automotive devices to the computer: mini-USB, micro-USB, and USB-C.
Locate the USB port on your device and reference the images below to know which USB data cable to use.
NOTE: Some of our devices have a powered mount and the USB port used for the computer may be located under the mount or in a different location. See Where to Connect the USB Computer Cable on Devices with a Powered Mount for more info.
mini-USB Port:
Some devices come with a USB data cable in the box when purchased new. A compatible mini-USB cable can also be purchased from Garmin's website.
Micro-USB Port:
Some devices come with a USB data cable in the box when purchased new. A compatible micro-USB cable can also be purchased from Garmin's website.
Use a Garmin brand USB data cable to ensure the device communicates with the computer properly.
USB-C Port:
Some devices come with a USB-C cable that can be used to connect to the computer to charge it. A compatible data transfer USB cable type A to type C can be purchased on the Garmin website.
If your computer also has a USB-C port, you can connect directly using a USB type C to USB type C data transfer cable without a converter cable. A compatible data transfer USB cable type C to type C can be purchased on the Garmin website.
Automotive devices with miniUSB or microUSB ports must use a USB-C to USB adapter along with the appropriate miniUSB to USB-A or microUSB to USB-A cable provided with the device.
If your device has a USB-C port, you can use a USB Type C to Type C data transfer cable.
Automotive devices listed below may need to use a USB 2.0 third-party hub in order for the Garmin device to properly detect the USB connection.
