RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)
RoHS is the abbreviation for Restriction of Hazardous Substances which is a directive adopted in February 2003 by the European Union and took effect July 1, 2006. This is often referred to as the "Lead-Free Directive". This directive restricts the use of hazardous materials in the manufacture of types of electronic and electrical equipment. Most international manufacturers of electrical and electronic devices, such as Garmin, have adopted this standard.
The materials restricted are:
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Hexavalent Chromium
- Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)
- Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
