Using TracBack on the Dakota Series, Oregon 200/300/400/500 Series and Rino 600 Series

The TracBack® routing feature allows you to navigate back along your previously recorded track.

Most newer Garmin outdoor handhelds are designed to start tracking once satellite connection is acquired. Due to this, it is best to reset the track and trip data at your starting point so your device knows the path you should follow back with TracBack feature. This also helps eliminate straight lines from your last known location to your current location (i.e. from your home to the current trailhead).

Resetting Track and Trip Data

  1. Select Setup from the main menu
  2. Select Reset
  3. Select Reset Trip Data
  4. Select Yes
  5. Select Clear Current Track
  6. Select Yes

Both the trip data and current track should now be reset. When ready to head back to your starting point, use the steps below for TracBack feature.

Performing TracBack Routing

  1. Select Track Manager from the main menu
  2. Select Current Track
  3. Select View Map
  4. Select Tracback

The handheld will begin to navigate you back to the start of your trip along the same track you took. You can also use the Map or Compass page to help navigate along the track.

Note: A TracBack route can only be performed using the current track log. If a saved or archived track is chosen, the TracBack feature option will not appear.
