Not Enough Free Space for a Wireless Update

Garmin automotive devices capable of wireless map and software updates include enough free space to complete available updates. However, as map data continues to grow, the updates may no longer fit on your device.

You Will be Prompted to use an SD Card if a Wi-Fi Enabled Automotive Device Lacks Enough Free Space to Perform an Update. See Below for More Information.

  • The pre-loaded maps will be deleted and maps will be downloaded into the newly available free space if the wireless map update is started without inserting an SD card.

  • If you stop the wireless update or encounter an error, the pre-loaded map will no longer be installed, resulting in an error message.

  • If you dismiss the SD card prompt, and the device lacks the free space for updates even with the deletion of the pre-loaded map, a message will appear to use Garmin Express to complete the update instead.  See How Do I Install Garmin Express Software? and then follow the on-screen prompts to update the maps/software.

  • microSD cards are available from most electronics retailers.

  • The microSD card must remain in your device at all times to display the maps.

See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices for info on compatible cards for your device.
