Pairing the Garmin® GPSMAP 86i Series to a Garmin Marine Chartplotter

Certain Garmin® chartplotters may be paired with a Garmin® GPSMAP 86i handheld to do the following from the chartplotter screen:

• View previous messages sent to the Garmin® GPSMAP 86i series

• Reply using quick messages

• Send Check-In Messages (formerly known as Preset Messages)

Messages will be shown as notifications on the chartplotter.

The Garmin®  GPSMAP 86i series must be able to acquire a satellite signal to send and receive messages. It will generally be able to acquire a satellite signal when placed in an area with a clear view of the sky.

Pairing instructions

NOTE: The system software on the Garmin® chartplotter and the GPSMAP® 86i  series must be up to date before pairing the devices.

When the devices have been updated, enable ANT+ or inReach Remote on the Garmin® inReach Mini series and pair it with the chartplotter.

GPSMAP® 86i : Enabling ANT+

1. Open the Main Menu

2. Select Setup

3. Select Sensors

4. Select inReach Remote

5. Select On

Garmin® Chartplotter: Starting Pairing

1. Select Vessel from the home screen of the chartplotter

2. Select inReach

3. Select Start Pairing

The Garmin® chartplotter will show a Connected status when the pairing has been completed successfully.
