EPO Expired or CPE Expired Error on a Garmin Handheld
Extended Prediction Orbit (EPO) or Connected Predictive Ephemeris (CPE) files allow Garmin handhelds to predict where satellites will be in the sky, which reduces GPS acquisition time. With updated EPO or CPE files, instead of taking 2-3 minutes to find GPS signals, it will usually take less than 30 seconds.
If the handheld has not been used in over 30 days or has traveled more than 200 miles since its last satellite connection, the EPO or CPE data can expire.
Updating the EPO or CPE Data
Satellite location information is refreshed periodically when your Garmin product syncs data with a Garmin Connect™ account or Garmin Explore™ account. Garmin products can be synced with the Garmin Express™ program (for Garmin Connect accounts) or the Garmin Explore app to update their EPO or CPE data. How Do I Check EPO or CPE Status?
EPO or CPE status can be checked under About in the System or Setup menu of your Garmin product. EPO and CPE files expire, and are usually only good for a range of 3-14 days. Sync the Garmin product regularly to download new EPO or CPE data. Refer to your owner's manual for help finding the About menu of your device.
