Understanding Swing Tempo and Smash Factor

Swing Tempo and Smash Factor are measured by the Approach G80. The information below will help you understand what Smash Factor and Swing Tempo are.

Swing Tempo

Swing Tempo is backswing time divided by downswing time. The ideal Swing Tempo, as observed in professional golfers, is a 3 to 1 ratio, or 3.0.

Smash Factor

Smash Factor is ball speed divided by the club head speed, and measures the efficiency of energy transfer from the club to the ball. The higher the number, the more efficiently energy is transferred from the club to the ball. Ideal Smash Factor for a driver is 1.50, and 1.30 with a pitching wedge.
