Transferring Tracks & Waypoints to a Tread from the Alpha 100

To Transfer tracks and waypoints from an Alpha® 100 dog tracking handheld we will first need to import that data into the Garmin Basecamp™ program. If you do not have the Garmin BaseCamp program installed on your computer. 


Transferring Tracks and Waypoints from the Alpha 100 Handheld to BaseCamp Software

First you must import the information into the BaseCamp program:

  1. Connect the Alpha 100 handheld to the computer using the provided USB cable.
    • Power on the device, if needed.

Open Garmin BaseCamp program.

  1. Wait for the device to be recognized by BaseCamp program
    • On a Mac you will see:
      Mac Alpha 200 
    • On a Windows you will see: 
      Windows Alpha 200
  2. Select Device (Windows) or Transfer (Mac) in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Select Receive from Device.
  4. Select the device.
    • On Mac you will also be prompted to select checkboxes for the items to transfer.
  5. Select OK (Windows) or Receive (Mac).

Exporting Data From BaseCamp Program

  1. Open BaseCamp program.
  2. Select the information to be exported:
    • My Collection can be selected to export all user data stored.
    • A specific list or folder can be selected to export only its contents. 
    • Specific items can be highlighted in the lower-left panel by clicking a single route/track/waypoint/activity.
      • To select multiple items: CTRL + Click (Windows) or Command Click (Mac).
  3. Select File (Mac) or File > Export (Windows) the top toolbar.
  4. Select an option:
    • Export 'My Collection'
    • Export '[folder/list name]'
    • Export Selection (Windows) or Export Selected User Data (Mac)
  5. Choose a name, format, and location to save the exported data.
  6. Select Save or Export.

The file containing user data from the BaseCamp program has now been exported and saved to your computer.


Importing Data to the Garmin Explore™ Website

  1. Log in to the Garmin Explore website.
    • NOTE: A Garmin Explore account is required to log in.
  2. Select Map.
  3. Click Download Button  from the top right corner of the map.
  4. Select Import Lines As Tracks or Import Lines As Routes.
    • If the Import as Tracks option is selected all routes and tracks in the file will be imported as Tracks
    • If the Import as Routes option is selected all the routes and tracks in the file will be imported as Routes
  5. Select a Collection or Library to import the files into. Then select Next.
  6. Drag files into the import box, or choose Click Here to browse the computer for the files to import. 
  7. Once the file has been uploaded select Import. A green check-mark will appear after the import is successful. 

The files will be loaded on the Garmin Explore Website and will now appear on your Garmin Explore App and Garmin Tread™ App
