Unable to Register a Marine Chart with Garmin Express
Before registering a pre-loaded microSD/SD card to Garmin Express, ensure there is not a garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml file on the microSD/SD card. If so, Express will only see the device and not the chart. In order to resolve this issue, remove the .xml file(s) from the microSD/SD card then click "Search Again" in Express.
To verify the file is on the microSD/SD card and to delete the file, use the following steps:
Windows 7
- Press Windows key + E
- Double-click the SD card
- Double-click the Garmin folder
- Delete the garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml file if it is present
Windows 8/10
- Press Windows key + E
- (Windows 10 only) Click on This PC
- Double-click the SD card
- Double-click the Garmin folder
- Delete the garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml file if it is present
Mac
- Open Finder
- Click Go
- Click Computer
- Double-click on the SD card
- Drag the garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml to the Trash if it is present
- Click Finder
- Click Empty Trash
- Click Empty Trash again on the confirmation window
