Unable to Register a Marine Chart with Garmin Express

Before registering a pre-loaded microSD/SD card to Garmin Express, ensure there is not a garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml file on the microSD/SD card. If so, Express will only see the device and not the chart. In order to resolve this issue, remove the .xml file(s) from the microSD/SD card then click "Search Again" in Express.

To verify the file is on the microSD/SD card and to delete the file, use the following steps:


Windows 7
    1. Press Windows key + E
    2. Double-click the SD card
    3. Double-click the Garmin folder
    4. Delete the garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml file if it is present
Windows 8/10
    1. Press Windows key + E
    2. (Windows 10 only) Click on This PC
    3. Double-click the SD card
    4. Double-click the Garmin folder
    5. Delete the garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml file if it is present
Mac
    1. Open Finder
    2. Click Go
    3. Click Computer
    4. Double-click on the SD card
    5. Drag the garmindevice.xml and/or marinedevice.xml to the Trash if it is present
    6. Click Finder
    7. Click Empty Trash
    8. Click Empty Trash again on the confirmation window
